When done right, content marketing raises the quality of available information above the junk that makes up most of the two million blog posts published on the internet each day. We research, write and publish articles and blog posts that bring real value to readers — and in doing so, we bring measurable value to our businesses or our own careers.
What if I told you that there was also a way to use content marketing not just to benefit ourselves and our companies, but to make the world a better place? What if I told you that one post on your blog could raise $50,000 to help lift families out of poverty and starvation?
Would that be worth the time it takes to write a short post?
Enter the SEO Hero Challenge
Wix, a company that makes a website publishing platform, issued the SEO Hero Challenge: whoever can rank a brand new site #1 in Google for the search term “SEO Hero” will win $50,000. As you can imagine, SEOs around the world are competing – including Wix themselves – with hundreds of sites built for the challenge spotted already.
I see the challenge as a unique opportunity for the digital marketing community not to compete, but instead to work together to do something good. Specifically, to direct that prize money to charity.
I created the site trueseohero.com to enter the competition with this goal. If it wins, 100% of the prize money will be donated to Worldbuilders, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works to direct money to where it does the most good in the world.
This is where you come in
The True SEO Hero site cannot rank #1 without a lot of sites linking to it. In order to divert that money to charity, we need a large part of our community to join together to help out.
I need you to help by writing a post on your site and linking to trueseohero.com. It doesn’t have to be a long post. You could write about:
The SEO Hero challenge and how you’re supporting charity over competition
Good causes to support this holiday season
How you can use content marketing to improve the world
Or if you’d rather not write a post, there are also badges you can embed on your site. If you want to go the extra mile, you can also share this story on social media.
And for curious SEOs, the True SEO Hero site also has an updates section that lists everything I’m doing to work on the site as well as some comparison of different link indexes.
I very much hope that you’ll be willing to take fifteen minutes or a half hour out of your schedule this holiday season to write up a quick post and help out. I’d like to thank ClearVoice for supporting the cause by allowing me to publish this post here. They’ve done their part to help raise this money for Worldbuilders, and I’ve done mine.
You’re up!
